FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chaminade University and the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational

Announce Details of Coaches Clinics

MAUI, Hawaii, July 14, 2011 Chaminade University and the EA SPORTSTM Maui Invitational are pleased to announce the return of coaches clinics, part of the adidas Hoops Clinics, in 2011. The dates for the second annual coaches clinics are September 28-29 on Oahu and October 1, 2011 on Maui. The sites and times of the clinics have yet to be determined.

The coaches clinics provide an educational opportunity for local island basketball coaches to learn playing techniques, coaching skills and overall management styles from successful former Division I NCAA basketball coaches and current D-II Chaminade University men’s basketball coach Eric Bovaird and women’s basketball coach Bobby Keanini.

The former Division I coaches that will be joining Bovaird and Keanini are EA SPORTS Maui Invitational Tournament Chairman Dave Odom, Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman and current ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla

Odom is a former head coach at Wake Forest and South Carolina. At Wake Forest, he coached two-time NBA MVP and four-time NBA Champion Tim Duncan, and at South Carolina he led the Gamecocks to back-to-back NIT Championships in 2005 and 2006. Fraschilla held multiple NCAA coaching positions over his 23-year career, including stints at Manhattan, St. John’s, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Ohio, Ohio State and Providence, with his teams making numerous NCAA and NIT appearances. Since 2008, Lieberman has worked as an ESPN/ABC analyst for the NBA, WNBA and NCAA Basketball, and starting in 2010 was the head coach of the Texas Legends, making her the first woman coach in the NBA Development League.

Bovaird is in his first year as the Chaminade University Men’s Basketball Head Coach. For the past seven seasons, he served as the Assistant Coach at West Liberty University in West Virginia. His teams recorded a 175-40 won-loss record - one of the top records in the NCAA Division II level over the past five years. West Liberty finished the 2010-2011 season ranked No. 1 nationally, with their lone loss coming to BYU-Hawaii in the Final Four. West Liberty led the nation in scoring in six of the last seven years and was ranked as a top-20 teams nationally in five of the past six years. Keanini is going into his second year at the helm of Chaminade’s women’s program after a stellar high school coaching career at Roosevelt High School on Oahu. Keanini’s teams won numerous league and conference championships and a Division II state championship in 2004.
