Friday's Opening Games Results

Kansas Defeats Northern Colorado, 109-72

The fourth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks shot 58 percent from the 3-point line and had five players score in double figures to score a 109-71 victory over Northern Colorado in a Maui Jim Maui Invitational Opening Game on Friday night at Allen Fieldhouse.
 
Kansas outscored Northern Colorado 32-16 in the paint and finished with 29 points off 21 Bears' turnovers. Brannen Greene came off the bench to lead the Jayhawks with 18 points, Perry Ellis finished with 16 and Wayne Selden had 15. Perry Mason III nearly recorded a double-double, finishing with 11 points and nine assists. Northern Colorado's Cameron Michael posted a game-high 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting.
 
The Jayhawks will next square off against Michigan State on Tuesday before traveling to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational next week. Northern Colorado will host the Maui Jim Maui Invitational Regional Games on Nov. 21-22.

Thomas, Mitoglou Pace Wake Forest to Opening Games Win
 
Wake Forest's front court duo of Devin Thomas and Dinos Mitoglou finished with double doubles to help Wake Forest to a 78-73 victory over UMBC on Friday night at LJVM Coliseum.
 
Thomas finished with a game-high 21 points and 17 rebounds, while Mitoglou finished with 19 and 16 to pace the Demon Deacons. Despite shooting 38 percent from the floor, Wake Forest finished with 24 offensive rebounds, resulting in 25 second-chance points. UMBC was paced by Jourdan Grant, who finished the night with 20 points. He was one of four players to score in double figures for UMBC.
 
Wake Forest has games against Bucknell and Richmond before traveling to the Championship Round of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. UMBC will compete in its second Opening Game against St. John's on Monday before heading to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational Regional Games on Nov. 21 and 22 at Northern Colorado.

Vanderbilt Scores Opening Night Win Against Austin Peay
 
Vanderbilt outscored Austin Peay 47-15 in the first half to set the tone in its 80-41 victory on Friday night at Memorial Gymnasium in a Maui Jim Maui Invitational Opening Game on Friday night.
 
The Commodores' Luke Kornet finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Wake Baldwin IV posted a team-high 14 points, while Damian Jones recorded 12 points. Vanderbilt held Austin Peay to just 18 percent shooting in the first half, and 22 percent overall. The Governors' Khalil Davis led the way with 10 points, while Chris Horton had a team-high 14 rebounds.
 
Vanderbilt will host Gardner Webb and Stony Brook next week before opening the Championship Round of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational on Nov. 23 against St. John's. The Governors will next face Indiana in their second Maui Jim Maui Invitational Opening Game on Monday.

UNLV secures 74-72 victory over Cal Poly
 
UNLV outlasted a late Cal Poly rally to secure a 74-72 victory on Friday night at the Thomas and Mack Center in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational Opening Game.
 
With the score tied at 67 with two minutes to play in the contest, the Runnin's Rebels' scored the game's next five points and their defense made some key stops in the final two minutes to secure the victory. Patrick McCaw came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points, while Stephen Zimmerman Jr. had 12 and Jerome Seagears finished with 11. Joel Awich and David Nwaba each recorded 15 points for visiting Cal Poly.
 
UNLV will next host New Mexico Highlands and Southern Utah before opening the Maui Jim Maui Invitational Championship Round against UCLA on Nov. 23. Cal Poly will next take part in its second Opening Games contest against UCLA on Sunday.
