UCLA Holds Off Cal Poly, 88-83 Behind Thomas Welsh's 22 points, UCLA held off Cal Poly to earn an 88-83 victory on Sunday night in a Maui Jim Maui Invitational Opening Game at Pauley Pavilion.
Welsh was one of five UCLA players to score in double figures, with Bryce Alford finishing with 18 points, Tony Parker recording 16 and Isaac Hamilton and Jonah Bolden each posting 11 in the victory. Alford, Hamilton and Aaron Holiday combined for 22 assists in the game, allowing the Bruins to shoot 50 percent from the field. Reese Morgan came off the bench to lead the way for Cal Poly with 20 points.
UCLA will next face Pepperdine on Thursday before opening the Championship Round of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational on Nov. 23 against UNLV. Cal Poly will host Cal State Monterey Bay on Wednesday before traveling to Northern Colorado on Nov. 21-22 for the Maui Jim Maui Invitational Regional Games.
