Gonzaga Bulldogs #1 in AP
Congratulations to the Gonzaga Bulldogs for topping the AP chart for the first time in school history! The Bulldogs will be returning to the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational this November for their fourth appearance.
- 2002: The Zags beat Utah in the first round, fell to Indiana by one point in the semi-final and lost to UK Wildcats in the third place game
- 2005: The Gonzaga vs. Michigan State game is listed as one Most Memorable non-NCAA tournament games by ESPN.com. The Zags beat the Spartans 109-104 in triple overtime in their first game of the Tournament.
- 2009: Gonzaga’s last appearance at the Lahaina Civic Center earned them bragging rights as they beat Cincinnati in overtime for the championship game.
This November, Gonzaga will join #17 Syracuse, Arkansas, Baylor, California, Dayton, Minnesota and host Chaminade to compete for bragging rights and the Wayne Duke Championship Trophy. To commemorate the team’s participation in the upcoming Tournament, an 8-foot authentic surfboard was presented to Athletic Director Mike Roth and Spike the mascot during the Feb. 20th home game against Santa Clara that aired on ESPNU.
